What is an adjustable reamer used for?
The adjustable hand reamer is a versatile tool for grinding and smoothing bores and holes in workshops and DIY projects. The reamers improve the shape and dimensional accuracy of bores, for example, for fitting roller or plain bearings.
How do you adjust an adjustable reamer?
Open one of the two nuts with an open-end wrench and then use the second nut to push the cutting edges in the desired direction. The diameter decreases as you move downwards, and increases as you move upwards. Fine adjustment of the reamer is achieved using a ring gauge or an outside micrometer, which increases the accuracy and precision of the reaming process. Adjustment can also be made with a caliper, depending on the accuracy required.
How do I use the adjustable reamer?
Using a tap wrench, the hand reamer is rubbed through an existing hole by hand, which enlarges the hole and has a positive effect on the surface quality and accuracy.

Die Reibahle lässt sich präzise einstellen und trägt das Material (Bronze) sauber ab. Die bearbeitete Flächen sehen sehr gut aus.
Zur Instandsetzung von Motorradmotoren und Getrieben habe ich mir alle Reibahlen von Durchmesser 6mm bis 64mm gekauft. Das Set hat bis jetzt alle Erwartungen erfüllt. Bei allen bisher benutzen Reibahlen saßen die Messer stramm in den Führungen und waren so präzise geschliffen, daß alle Schneiden gleichmäßig im Einsatz sind. Sie haben durchweg glatte saubere Oberflächen erzeugt. Der konische Anschliff zu Beginn ermöglicht es, die Ahlen gerade und ohne Verkanten einzusetzen, was bei Ventilführungen absolut zwingend notwendig ist. Lediglich die Verstellmuttern laufen stellenweise etwas hakelig. Dies liegt an leichten Verletzungen der Feingewinde auf den Ahlen. Diese sind aber so minimal, daß die Funktion dadurch nicht beeinträchtigt ist. Deswegen ziehe ich keinen Punkt hierfür ab. Zum Einsatz kamen sie bisher bei Grauguß und Bronzelegierungen. Von den ganzen Sätzen, die ich bei mir liegen habe, sind diese qualitativ mit Abstand die Besten in diesem Preissegment.
Das das Bild zeigt zwar die Version 15mm, beide funktionieren aber gleich gut. Mittlerweile habe ich von 12 bis 35mm nahezu alle Größen hier gekauft und für gut befunden.

Mangels detailierter Bedienungsanleitung für das „trockene“ Werkzeug war die „Inbetriebnahme“ unerwartet schwer (ich musste einen kleinen Engländer kaufen, um die Muttern zu öffnen), aber sobald man alles leicht mit Feinöl geölt hat, funktioniert alles wunderbar.
